

"The ones that really connect with the kids, they know if you respect the kids, they'll respect you," Hurley said.

Marysville School Bus Director of Transportation John Hurley said they takes a similar approach. Marysville School Bus, the company that handles the Marysville Public School's routes, currently has 17 drivers. "We never stop advertising, we never stop hiring," Haas said. The company currently has about 80 drivers, but they'll take more, Haas said. They also pay a $500 bonus to drivers that complete the training. The company provides all required training, including a CDL certification, at no cost. Drivers average around 27 hours per week, said Matt Haas, First Student general manager. "Instead of nitpicking and yelling at kids, we want to be more like 'hey, you got that right,'" he said.ĭrivers with First Student start at $16 per hour.
